Citizens of the Universe

My name is Bruce Rodgers. When I was six years old I really could have used Citizens of the Universe. I can easily imagine myself at that age creating real-looking 3D worlds with thousands of easy to assemble parts. Instead, I had to create the planet of the Slurpies the old-fashioned way, in crayon.

I grew up and went to school to become a commercial artist. After years working in my chosen field I took a professional hiatus and moved from Wisconsin to Oregon. During this time off I wrote and illustrated the unpublished wordless children's book "Noplace Special" which also incidentally had some other-worldly characters in it but no Slurpies.

A few years later, after starting a family I pursued a career at Will Vinton Studios, the Portland animation studio that created The California Raisins. I wore many hats while employed there and learned from some of the most talented people I have ever met. The most inspiring project I worked on while at Will Vinton was the award-winning Claymation Clay toy line which I designed and co-developed.

The final hat I wore at Will Vinton was illustrating the MnM's and other 3D computer characters for print advertising. This gave me valuble knowledge to the workings of 3D software.

Finally, being on the team that grew the e-commerce site 800.com educated me as to what is possible on the internet and convinced me that this is where Citizens of the Universe would grow.

The appearance of Bryce, my successful experience with Claymation Clay, learning Lightwave 3D and the growth of my knowledge about the internet catalyzed the original idea for Citizens of the Universe: a 3D creation environment that is easy and accessible to young children.

Now is the time for Citizens of the Universe.
